This blog is intended for those who want to explore the vast history of rock music from the past 50 years, and discover music you may not have heard of before. This is however, the history of rock as I see it. I'm not trying to create a comprehensive history of rock or a complete document of rock's evolution. These are bands and albums that are among my favorites, so the content here will be biased in that direction.
However, I think you'll find that there are gems to be discovered here. I've been a dedicated student and listener of popular music for over 20 years and know literally hundreds of albums of music in detail. In part, what you'll read here is a reflection of my journey through the world of rock.
What you're going to find
I believe the best in rock music comes from the 20th century from the United States, England, and Canada so I'm going to talk mostly about bands that fit that description. I think of the term "rock" pretty liberally and will cover many different styles. Those styles include: classic rock, album rock, heavy metal, hard rock, industrial rock, prog rock, gothic and psychedlic.
I won't cover very much in other genres such as: punk rock, rockabilly, R&B, emo, or indie.
I think you'll figure out pretty quickly that I have a penchant for lush, complex, cerebral, emotional, and symphonic music rather than direct, raw, low-fi, or overly "poppy" music.
